I create work primarily with materials such as textiles, stitched surfaces, and prints that mimic the layered and fragmented nature of memories. The time consuming and intimate nature of both printing and textile work allows space for reflection and reconciliation with the past. Through these materials and methods, I explore themes such as childhood, nostalgia, and memory. My practice is primarily involved in the emotional aspects of childhood, nostalgia, and longing for what is only accessible through memory. I am drawn to materials that carry familiarity such as faded and tattered fabrics, worn textures/fabric manipulation, cyanotypes, and quilting. These techniques have a way of evoking a sense of familiarity, comfort, and loss. In combining textile surfaces with printed or stitched imagery, I am able to explore how our memories are both held close and forgotten through time.
