How did you get started as an artist?

I started as an artist when I found the opportunity to apply to the Glassell Studio School of Art in Houston, TX.  The school provided comprehensive courses and practical instruction that has given me all the necessary underpinnings to explore art and the creative process.

What themes does your work involve?

I explore ideas and personal experiences from travel, music and literature in my art.  Often the environment will play a role although I do not engage in representational art. I generally paint memories of places rather than attempt to paint a scene that I am looking at.

What is your source of inspiration?

I am inspired most by ideas.

Can you describe your creative process?

I generally have an idea in mind when I first lay paint on a surface.  I will paint that idea and see it develop as I continue to work on it. At various points, I will add or subtract paint or material to parts of the painting as I move forward. There will come a point in this work when I feel I have entered the painting and I then begin to finalize the work.  There is always a point at which I know it has been completed.  This knowing is simply a feeling of being very happy and satisfied.

Do you have any artistic goals for the future that you would like to share?

I would like to continue in this concept-based painting and try to ensure that my work is always evolving and does not become stagnant.
