Tell a little bit about how you first got into creating art.
I started teaching myself to draw at the age of 13 when I was still in China. Illustrations and comic books from both domestic and international artists had a significant impact on me at that time. Consequently, I began creating my own art, and later, I realized that painting was a calling in my life.
What artists or movements have had an impact on you?
I am a huge fan of the Art Nouveau movement, and my favorite period is the Golden Age of American Illustration. Many outstanding artists like Mucha, Klimt, and J.C. Leyendecker were my inspirations for illustration. Their influence is deeply embedded in my work.
Most of the time, my creations stem from my memories and dreams, blending them with real-life experiences
What themes does your work involve?
I have a fondness for Impressionism and Romanticism, and these influences are evident throughout my pieces. My works often touch upon themes of love, family, feminism, and metaphorical expressions of surrealism.
Do you work from memory, life, photographs, or from other resources? Describe your creative process.
Most of the time, my creations stem from my memories and dreams, blending them with real-life experiences. For example, in the painting "Garden" my inspiration comes from the life I share with my beloved dog, while the setting originates from a dream I once had. We live on a perfect island called "Sun Island." As soon as I woke up, I immediately sketched the initial draft, emphasizing the importance of dreams in my creative process.
As an artist, I fervently hope that through art, we can change the world, make it a better place, and allow people to feel energy or find solace and healing in the midst of this chaotic society
What do you consider the role of an artist today?
I deeply understand the immense power of art. It is a potent hurricane that can influence individuals and society. Artists play the role of butterflies, causing ripples in this hurricane. As an artist, I fervently hope that through art, we can change the world, make it a better place, and allow people to feel energy or find solace and healing in the midst of this chaotic society. This, in my opinion, is the greatest value of art.
