Botanical

Botanical painting is at the intersection of art and science. And it is well known that the best way to study and really know something is to draw it. The artist who paints plants is, to a large extent, an explorer, capturing nature's designs in his or her work.

We are excited to introduce the Botanical juried art exhibition and competition.

The theme of this exhibition is the complex and captivating structures of plants: flowers, leaves, fruits and vegetables. Botanical illustration, botanical art, floral painting and plant portraiture are accepted for participation in the exhibition.

All artists 18 and older are encouraged to submit their work in any medium, style, and genre.
Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.).
No profanity or political artwork.

Each participant of the competition receives his personal page on the UPWARD gallery. This page displays works that the artist submitted for participation in competitions, short biography text and artist statement, links to the artist's website, as well as links to social media accounts, interview with the artist.

Entry fees cover processing, customer service, exhibitions, publications, and other general operating costs.

The illustration uses a fragment of the work Rosa Eglanteria by Pierre-Joseph Redouté.

Statement of our gallery

UPWARD Gallery does not sell your art directly, nor does it hold a drawing for cash prizes for participants.
Our goal is to help the artist obtain visible confirmation of his achievements in the form of media recognition and international awards, to acquire evidence of your participation in professional engagements. This, together with other media activities, helps to find a way to public acceptance and the opportunity to do only what you love.
People, including artists, are competitive. This means that we will never stop comparing ourselves with others. Therefore, in our activities, we adhere to the competitive format of our shows as the most effective. Being judged in a show is a way to find out how you stack up. And in the end, to understand for yourself whether you are moving in the right direction or not.
