Robert Patrick was born in Duluth, MN in 1950. At High School in Mahtomedi, MN he was a standout football player and wrestler, president of the band and boy’s state. During this period, he played Rock guitar professionally and decided to pursue a career as a visual artist. After graduation he attended the University of Minnesota as an art major. In 1970 he dropped out of school and joined an artist commune. His hiatus from school would last six years during which time he made a living playing music and did a US Army tour as a cartoonist with Special Training Branch. In 1976 he returned to the University of MN to complete a BFA in 1977 and his MFA in painting in 1979. In 2003 he was a recipient of the $25,000.00 McKnight Foundation Fellowship. Since 1980, Robert Patrick has shown extensively nationally and internationally and been represented by Anderson & Anderson Gallery, Minneapolis, MN; Kiein Gallery, Chicago, IL; Dietrich Contemporary, New York, NY; Au Temps Qui Passe, Genolier, Switzerland; and, since 2016, by Singulart, Paris, France.
