I'm Amanda Ott, an abstract artist based in Southern Indiana, rooted in a family tradition of utilitarian creativity. My journey as an artist began during a period of personal loss—art became the only place where I felt at peace. That solace led me down a more intentional path of creative expression.
I hold bachelor’s degrees in Painting and Art History, and later earned my master’s in Art History from the University of Louisville. While I’ve spent the last several years teaching art history, I never completely stepped away from making art. A few years ago, with encouragement from friends, I returned to painting with renewed commitment, developing a daily practice that has reconnected me to my creative core. Since then, I’ve exhibited in several local shows in Central Indianapolis.
My work is a direct reflection of emotional exploration. As a child, I often suppressed my feelings; now, through art, I allow myself to experience and process them. My pieces typically begin with intuitive ink lines, which I build upon with layers of watercolor. Color choices are guided by my...
