William Denton Ray was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1974. Ray is a
mixed-media painter and designer working with a variety of mediums. In 1992
he received a scholarship from the Columbus College of Art and Design where he majored in Advertising Design. He later transferred to the Herron School of Art and Design where he concentrated on painting and drawing. He has had solo exhibitions in Indianapolis and Boston as well as numerous group exhibitions throughout the country. Ray was a 2009 Stutz Residency Award winner and has been involved with several public art projects in Indianapolis. His artwork is in many private, public and international collections. He maintains studios at his home and at the Harrison Center for the Arts in downtown Indianapolis.
Ray’s personal work focuses on mixed media paintings on wood or canvas.
He uses primarily brushed-on acrylic paint with additions of spray paint, Chinese marker, paint marker and sometimes collage. The subject matter of William’s work rotates from abstraction to whimsical illustrations to small wood sculptures that are...
