Debby Goan was born to immigrants from Taiwan. She spent her formative years in Texas before going to Amherst College. There, she focused on exploring the space between the theoretical and the actual. Goan has spent the majority of her career in fintech. She is one of the few minority women to ever hold a member seat of the American Stock Exchange and throughout her career, she has often been the only woman present. Goan’s work is often about the overlapping identities that she wears - daughter, mother, executive, creative, explorer. Her objective is to articulate the essence of an experience, conveying the “sensation of” whether that be awe, frustration, and everything in between. Goan is often highly experimental. Goan’s work is in several private collections, and she has shown in several group and student shows in Hudson Valley and New York City.
